To all the mums behind the camera/phone
Photographs are clearly very important to me. I love them and if I could fill my whole house with them I would (but my husband has told me off :) ). They bring me so much joy. Memories of past events or holidays, the little differences in the kids faces from one year to the next, angles, light, colours and loved ones. I can go on but I think you get the point.
With Mother’s day just around the corner I started thinking about my own mum, looking for photos of the two of us together from my childhood, but I couldn’t find many. Most of them are naturally of me and my siblings and what we were up to. I then started to look through my own photos. Yes, I have 1000’s maybe 10,000’s (gaahh) of pictures of my two little ones, plenty of them with their dad. But me? hardly any. It might not be a great loss to the world but sometimes have a horrible feeling of, what if something happened to me? I would love for my children to - in 10, 20, 30 years to come - be able to look through memories and have me included. The cuddles, the love and the fun times.
In every family session I have I always make a point of taking pictures of mum and dad with the children separately. The connection and love between a child and their parents is like nothing else. The way a child lights up when looking in to their mothers eyes. Nothing makes me smile more than the photos of mum and child cuddling up together. Give me a pre-teen boy giving their mum a big hug and I melt.
I can give you a long list of different reasons of why I think you should hire a professional photographer, but I’ll save that for another blog :) For now I will give you one simple reason. Put your phone down and get someone else to take the photos for you. Get in the frame, give your kids a big hug, tell them that you love them. I will capture it and I promise you that you will not regret it :)
Until then, enjoy these mother and child photos….
